Controlling emotion

How do you see past the cloud of emotion to actually execute.

I just try to be still and understand that things come and go.
Emotions come and go, the important thing is to accept them all, to embrace them all and choose to do with them what you want.

What are you really nervous about, if you unpack that. You are nervous that you are going to miss the shot, alright so you miss the shot then what happens?
People are going to be embrassed, you will be embrassed because millions of people see you miss the shot, then what?
Are those things important, you are worried about letting your team down, have you let me down before, you have probably and they are still there.

Getting over yourself

You grow up and you make game winning shots and it's awesome, you come back the next day and miss a game winning shot and it's misery.
Are we supposed to live our lifes like this the whole time, versus understanding that it's really just a journey of evolution everyday, constant improvement, constant curiosity.
The results don't really matter, it's the figuring out that matters.

Consistency of work

The consistency of work, monday get better, tuesday get better, wednesday get better, you do that over a period of time.
It's a period of time not like 1 month or 2 months, it's 3-10 years. Then you can get to where you want to go.

What stood out to me

I have always appreciated Kobe Bryant, in a sport where so much is based on genetics, Kobe always stood out not because of genetics but based on sheer work ethic. Kobe shows that consistenly working hard isn't about the end result of winning or losing, but the process along the way.

Kobe was one of the greatest basketball players of all time and of all the greats Kobe's was the least accidental.

Kobe's advice applies for more than just basketball.

You can be mentored by people that are not alive.
